Tattoo aftercare is vital to the longevity of your tattoo. How your tattoo looks 3 months or 3 years from now, depends on how you treat it.
Follow these easy steps to promote a healthy tattoo:
Remove the bandage within 12 hours. Wash your hands, then wash your tattoo with warm to hot water while using an antibacterial soap. Gently pat your tattoo dry with a clean towel and then let it air dry until it’s completely dry. Apply a very thin layer of dermatologist recommended Aquaphor healing ointment for the first couple of days, 2 to 3 times a day. Over doctoring your tattoo is not recommended.
After a few days, apply a thin layer of "fragrance free" lotion or pure coco butter, 2 to 3 times daily for the next 2 to 3 weeks. Flaking or peeling is a natural part of the healing process. Please don’t scratch or pick at your tattoo. Also keep out of direct sunlight and don’t soak your tattoo while it’s healing. That means - no baths, hot tubs, pools, oceans, lakes, etc. Showers are fine. After your tattoo is healed, always use a strong sunblock while in the sun and remember to moisturize your skin with lotion. It’ll help keep your colors fresh.
